We’ve been discussing prophecy and whether our prayers can alter the future, and how much action God requires from us when He says, “Thus says the Lord.”

Today, I wanted to look at some of the many ways we can respond to God’s direction (these also apply to prophecy, because that is God’s sharing the future with us, and many times the prophetic word includes direction). Usually, we regard a response to direction as a simple thing: either we follow God or we don’t.

But it can actually be a bit more complicated than that. We can invent our own word from God, being so desperate for direction that we manufacture it and stamp God’s label on it. We can hide from God’s direction, or only seek those who will tell us what we’re comfortable hearing, and not necessarily what God wants to say.
